farming ice imps/ice golems & needling shot
i have been dabbling with various ranger builds lately, and just bought Factions and EotN. I came across needling shot, and I kind of like pairing it with Kindle arrows. My basic build right now is:
Kindle arrows - burning arrow - screaming shot - savage shot - needling shot - dryder's defenses - mantra of frost - ether feast
my attributes are
marskman 16 (w/runes)
wilderness 10
inspiration 8
its worked on and off, i've noticed when an imp gets off maelstrom it can cause problems for me if i'm not paying attention because if it interrupts the mantra, i start taking more damage plus use energy regen
i doubt killing a bunch of imps and golems will provide any great items to sell, but i'm just trying to kind of get the hang of making builds and trying to solo for now.

MAesltrom wont interupt mantra. Mantra is a stance and cannot be interrupted. It will screw ether feast over though.
Dryders and mantra doesnt go well together. Both are stances, so one will cancel out te other. Dryders gives you some nice elemental armor but last very short with a long recharge. Mantra is probably better for you.
Try troll ungeant along with ether feast. Troll wont get interrupted since it is a skill and not a spell. Gives you some easy regen.

You're right I forgot it was ether feast. Dryders defenses I had in there as an alternate for mantra. I'm also thinking about decreasing one of my other attributes and increasing inspiration so I have some more protection vs the ice damage.

How does maelstrom interrupt mantra? Isn't it a stance?
I noticed that in your att you do not have any expertise. I am not sure how much energy you net from Mantra, but it may not be enough to fuel the costly bow attacks you have. Consider using expertise.
Try different builds. I won't suggest any right now because I am not trying to hijack this thread, but if you are interested, please let me know.
GL on your build.

I think I may have 2 expertise with a few leftover skill pts. So far energy hasn't been a prob, when I'm fighting 2 or 3 guys who are using ice spells, I'm getting 2 energy back fairly frequently. The problem so far has mainly been getting interrupted by maelstrom while using ether feast and/or taking too much damage. I'm going to tinker with it more tonight and see if I can't survive better. I don't use troll unguent because sitting there for 3 seconds typically results in me eating about 11 ice spears during that time lol
Oh and don't worry about the 'hijacking' thing. I'm always open to suggestions/pointers. As I'm sure u can tell I'm still kinda learning.

Well you have to consider that if EF gets interrupted, you'll be a sitting duck until recharge. Even if it passes, it's not as if the healing from EF is great.
And water snares certainly don't make your life easy....

Which area are you doing this in? If it's outside of EoTN then this ol' vid shows a very simple and affective way of doing just Ice Imps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-3wLYmc1Jo
Ice Imps can be tackled easily as long as you stay out of their spell casting range, which is practically the size of your 'aggro bubble' on your compass. If you make sure you keep out of there you'll be ok, however any elevated areas (like hills) will affect both your bow range and their spell range, so it's best to fight on even ground.
Golems will come into casting range depending on the size of the group; in small groups they may not move but in larger groups some will move to spots closer to you.
Part from that I'm not sure what I can say as I'm unsure where you're doing your practice farming.

No the healing is not great but it only has an 8 second cooldown. Good point about those ice spells that slow me down, I believe the way to go is substitute dryders for some sort of hex removal. The movement hex + maelstrom can make things nasty pretty quick.
EDIT: well after more experimenting, turns out this idea is worthless
i found a couple areas with ice imps right outside, but there are simply too many of them to solo, and hex removal doesnt work because if you get rid of one, another simply slaps the same maelstrom + mind freeze combo and you're stuck regardless. the only way to keep this from constantly being slapped on you that i can think of is avatar or dwayna, which i cant have unless i'm a D primary. with a monk hero to heal me I can probably pull it off, but then, that sort of ruins the point anyway. thanks for the tips to those who replied

Ice imp/Golem farming is as old as the game and still works in HM. Vigorour Barrage build.
